Volvo had undertaken a public test of self-driven cars on a Spanish motorway. It consisted of three cars and one lorry, they were wirelessly linked to each other and copied a lead vehicle which was driven manually by a professional driver.
Volvo calls this project the “road train” and the firm believes this project will majorly take off and be a big part of driving in the future.
The aim of the project is to make drivers more relaxed during their journeys, able to do such things as “work on their laptops, read a book or sit back and enjoy lunch” while driving.
The test was carried out because of a European research project which is known as SARTRE (Safe Road Trains For The Environment), this project has been running since 2009 and includes partners from the UK, Spain, Germany and Sweden.
All in all, the project vehicles have covered over 10000km on test circuits.
