Businesses and SEO’s alike have been united in the eyebrow raising caused by recent fluctuations within the SERPs. From a couple of spots, to volumes of pages, keywords and rankings are moving all over the place, and until the end of last week, we were only left to assume that Google was up to something. But as of last week, Google confirmed that a “Panda refresh” was indeed in the process of rolling out.
In a statement released by Matt Cutts, this is to “level the playing field” for sites that don’t have the opportunity to optimise their sites, as opposed to sites that plough constant resources into SEO and successful techniques.
But many people have claimed that this could lead to the end of SEO as we know it, and as a service to outsource. What is quite short-sighted about this though, is the lack of consideration to other media that evolve around “SEO” that constantly evolve and show activity and impact.
Taking the example of Social Media, for example, this shows how quickly and effectively simple communication can take off and have an impact. Whether direct or indirect, having a presence and maintaining engagement online can not only have a massive impact in raising awareness for the brand but also encouraging a higher quality of traffic to the site by preferred methods of the user. Is this not optimisation?
