Following the media frenzy that have recently engulfed the headlines across the world, The Sun Newspaper again finds itself the centre of attention for all the wrong reasons.
News international – the owner of The Sun and was also owner of the News of the World announced that the site was hacked by the notorious Lulz Security Hacking syndicate.
In what seems a retaliation to the recent furore surrounding News International’s phone hacking revelations, readers were redirected from The Sun’s official site to a hoax site which appeared to be reporting on News International owner Rupert Murdoch being discovered dead in the garden of his UK home.
Lulz Security themselves have claimed responsibility via Social Network site Twitter. Visitor’s to Lulz Security’s hoax site were then directed to Lulz Security’s Twitter Profile Page.
News International appeared able to remove this after a short space of time.
Whilst some appear to frown upon the behaviour of Lulz Security many believe that this can only be a good thing in terms of protecting the public from further cases occurring as it increases the level of security on the web by raising standards.
Lulz Security’s ethos typically aims to humour people whilst conveying an important message to the public.
It’s main goal in most instances is to publicise the poor level of security that a high profile organisation has clearly invested in. However, in light of the recent phone hacking revelations it appears to have more than one agenda as well as capitalising on the recent exposure in the world’s media to raise its profile.
