You may have seen from Google’s latest April Fool’s day list that the search engine giant are looking to enter the American NASCAR series from the middle of next year, they have now taken the idea from the racing to track to the suburban streets and chauffeured a blind man around his town to help with his daily tasks.
The short video shows the man who has lost 95% of his sight and who doesn’t even have a driving license making his way through the drive-thru of a Taco-Bell restaurant and parking outside his local grocery store!
Google announced the project back in 2010 and have since exhausted testing by carrying out over 200,000 miles and recording only two accidents both with a human at the wheel, making it incredibly efficient.
It may be a while off yet but the opportunities are endless, both positive and negative. To name one, taxi drivers and bus drivers would be out of work, but it would also take thousands of dangerous and intoxicated drivers off the road.
Whether Google’s latest venture will pan out, is yet to be seen but I for one will be keeping a close eye on their developments.
