April fool’s day…an opportunity for Google’s most creative tech minds to run a mock with weird and wonderful ideas for one day only (or more as the case may be), below is a recap of what they have been up to this year!
The main party idea this year was the announcement of Google’s partnership with NASCAR called Google Racing, which will bring self driving technology to the race track by the middle of next season!
8 Bit Google Maps…Google Japan have launched an 8 bit version of Google maps for the original Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), now all the nostalgic graphics of the 80’s can be relived in your street.
“Google Street Roo”, ever wanted to see the thousands of square miles of Australian outback without hitchhiking your way there? Google have kindly asked the services of 1,000 kangaroos to hop around with 360 degree camera on their head, allowing you to look around the remote outback of Australia.
Don’t particularly like the weather for your location? Now Google lets you change the weather report for your area, and now Leamington Spa really can look like the Med!
Among the other gags that the search engine giant has created this year, there is one particular favourite of mine – The Google Nigeria page, which asked you to enter your “Bank Account Number”, would you be tempted? Luckily it just runs a normal search.
Are any of the above ideas better than the “Rick Rolled” scam of 2009, where by every featured video on YouTube linked directly to Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up”? I’m undecided…!!
