Apple have offered to refund any Australian customers who purchased the new iPad under the impression that it would be compatible with 4G.
Apple have recently been taken to court by a consumer watchdog in the country for false advertising claiming the new tablet doesn’t work on the Australian 4G network.
Apple have confirmed they never claimed that the device would be compatible with the Australian 4G network operated by phone provider Telstra.
The Australian competition and consumer commission said earlier this week that “Apple’s recent promotion of the new iPad with Wifi and 4Gis misleading because it represents to Australian consumers that the product can work with a sim card, and connect to a 4G Mobile data network in Australia, which is not the case”. The outcome of the case could determine whether or not the European commission take action over the same matter.
The new iPad went on sale earlier this month and has Apple confirmed that it has been one of their strongest iPad launches to date.
The matter is due in court on 2nd May 2012, however at a preliminary hearing earlier this week an Apple spokesman again confirmed they have never confirmed that the device would work on the 4G network.
The case comes at the same time as Apple are preparing to face Samsung in the Australian courts over product patents.
