Following its acquisition in November 2009 for $750 million, Google has now integrated Admob into its flagship Adwords interface. What this means for the search engine giant is that they can now reach out to over 300,000 mobile apps across 12 countries. This will make their Adwords service more attractive than ever to potential advertisers .
Director of Mobile Ads at Google, Jonathan Alferness quoted that businesses “need to adapt their marketing strategies to mobile platforms and mobile specific consumer trends”. With a potential audience of 350 million smartphone users, few will argue that this is a shrewd and positive move by Google. In the world of mobile advertising, Admob remains one of the largest and most trusted platforms in the world, boasting mobile banner and text ads in excess of 40 billion per month. Compatible with Windows, IOS and Android mobile web browsers, Admob also caters for all of the standard platforms.
What Admob will also give to advertisers is the ability to add mobile display to Adwords campaigns. Jason Spero – Google’s Head of Mobile Sales and Strategy stated that the Admob/Adwords integration makes it simpler to spend on mobile ads due to the fact that they will now be controlled in the same way as regular paid advertisements.
Is this move likely to propel Google to further dizzy heights? Well that remains to be seen but initial forecasts in the USA project that small to medium enterprises are likely to spend a projected $4.5 billion on mobile advertising in 2012.
